  1. guess it looks like marvin residents won’t be able to keep their lock on power over all of union county anymore.

this action is required to stop the tyranny of marvin, plain and simple. a town of 1200 people should not be allowed to rule the entire county.

  2. The only thing about the status quo relative to the number of the number of commissioners and how they are elected that is logical is that it is the status quo. There is no logical way of doing things, there are only the political advantages at any given moment. But, to change the status quo, we need the process to be long and difficult so that it will be changed seldom. Lanny makes the point that the Democrats did not run anyone. I beg to differ, they ran under the name of Republican, the only place where they had a prayer of winning.
In my head, there is strong reason to change our commission to at least 7 members, but when it happens, I want it to be with a little honesty and class. This effort is void in both. I don’t know what else you would expect from the present majority.

  3. Thanks, Aubrey

  4. Aubrey,

You said, I beg to differ, they ran under the name of Republican, the only place where they had a prayer of winning.

Could you apply the same logic to the State House elections and actually being effective while sitting in the minority?

  5. I will let you guys decide who is real and who isn’t. Like I said in an earlier post, I am a Democrat and we have such loose definitions of what constitutes a real Democrat( there is no such thing as NOT constituting a real Democrat) that this whole thing is confusing to me. I just know that if you see a lion and a lamb making whoopee, you done crossed over the big divide. It ain’t natural down here.

  6. The sad part is….folks like Gibson can do just about anything they want to do. They represent districts that are so far gerrymandered that nobody can beat them. Given this….what is to stop them???

And soon we get to have these same wonderful districts for our County Commission. At least the way it is now we can throw the bums out. After we get districts…it is finished. You can bet at least half of them will be gerrymandered so that whoever wins them will be in office for life. If you are lucky enough to live in one of those, you just lost your right to elect a county commissioner. Just like I have no right to elect a US Congressman. Sue Myrick is my representative until she dies or gets tired and leaves, and there is absolutely nothing I can do about it. Nothing.

  7. Darren, I intend to prove your hypothesis inaccurate…
